Last Boy Scout, The (DVD)

   Bruce Willis, Halle Berry and Damon Wayans star in this action-packed mystery about a demoralized private detective, a washed-up ex-football star and the stripper who binds them together. Somewhere in Los Angeles, the city of broken dreams, a stripper (Halle Berry) is murdered. Now the private detective (Willis) she had hired, and her ex-footballer boyfriend (Wayans) are going to find her murderer ... if they don't kill each other first. But the more they dig, the deeper they become enmeshed in a web of extortion, blackmail and corrupt politics hidden beneath the surface of professional football.

    Bruce Willis stars as NYPD detective Jack Mosley, a cop assigned to drive petty criminal Eddie Bunker to testify. It should be a simple task. It should take 15 minutes. But a routine errand becomes a fight for survival that will change two men forever in 16 blocks. Out of shape, with a bad leg and a serious drinking problem, Jack (Willis--Sin City, The Sixth Sense) has a simple role on the force--clock in, clock out and stay out of trouble in between. When Jack shoves Eddie Bunker (Mos Def--Lackawanna Blues, Monster's Ball) into the back of his car, he doesn't notice the van looming behind them. Jack stops Eddie's execution, killing one assassin, but when Jack calls for backup, homicide detective Frank Nugent (David Morse--Hearts in Atlantis, The Green Mile) is the first to arrive at the scene. Eddie suddenly goes pale--one of the detectives on Nugent's team is the man against whom he is supposed to testify.

   There are two sides to every war, and a mysterious gun-for-hire is on both of them as rival Mafia groups battle to the death in this action-packed thriller. Based on the story "A Fistful of Dollars" and the story "Yojimbo" by Ryuzo Kikushima and Akira Kurosawa.

The Whole Nine Yards

     Well, there goes the neighborhood -- in a pine box. When hit man Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski moves into a comfy suburb, everyone's suddenly in danger of pushing up daisies. And it's not all Jimmy's doing either. Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny) directs, and a talented ensemble cast packs heat in this manic comedy about life, love and plenty of ammo. Bruce Willis plays Jimmy, whose arrival sparks a chain reaction in which just about everybody wants to clip somebody else. Matthew Perry plays a hapless dentist who finds a way to get on the Tulip's good and bad sides. And Rosanna Arquette, Michael Clarke Duncan, Natasha Henstridge, Amanda Peet and Kevin Pollak add to the yards of wacky and whacked fun.
