He always wanted to leave his hometown to see the world, but circumstances and his own good heart prevented him from leaving Bedford Falls, Connecticut. He sacrificed himself for the sake of saving and educating his brother, saving up every cent to keep the family afloat, borrowing money, protecting the town from the evil banker Potter, marrying the girl he had loved since childhood and supported this family as well. And so, George prepares to jump off the bridge, but instead saves his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody, who was sent from heaven after hearing the prayers of the inhabitants of the city asking for help for Bailey. The angel of the second class, who was not in very good standing in heaven, if the mission is successful, will be granted wings, which he has been waiting for (in line) for two hundred years. Clarence shows him how bad Bedford Falls would be without him and all his good deeds. Filled with joy for life, George goes home to his loving family and friends, with whom he forgets about all worries, and the inhabitants of the town help him with money - they carry as much as they have and congratulate them on Christmas. Throwing everything away, George's younger brother, Harry, arrives and makes a toast: (To my older brother George, the richest man in the city). The townspeople are celebrating Christmas at Bailey's house, the bell is ringing on the tree, and their youngest daughter Zuzi says that when this happens, it means that some angel got his wings.
